Configuring Your Domain Users
When you configure a new domain it is setup by default to allow mail to be delivered to any user of that domain, for example:
- sales@example.com
- support@example.com
This setup is prone to a "dictionary attack", which is where a spammer will send mail to addresses like randomword1@example.com.
If your mail server has been setup with "catchall" address handling this will result in you receiving messages for users who don't actually exist!
The solution is to create a list of all the valid email addresses you have associated with a domain - then messages addressed to invalid users may be rejected.
